INTRODUCTION:

After my discharge from the Army, I attended IUPUI, and while there, I tried out for their basketball team. I made it to the final cut but did not make the team. At that point, I became one of the team's student managers and served in that capacity under Coach Kirby Oberman who had previously coached state champion New Albany and the Indiana All-Stars.

I did that for one year. I then started coaching basketball as a volunteer [just as I had baseball & football while in the Army] and eventually as an employee with the Indianapolis Parks Department. I coached teams in WBAA competition, Parks Department leagues and tournaments, AAU State & National tournaments, Indianapolis-Scarborough Peace Games league & tournaments, White River Parks Games, Dust Bowl tournaments, and for the Police Athletic League.

I was a member of the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association and the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

I coached the Indianapolis Select All-Star Team against the Scarborough (Canada) Select All-Star Team twice with a 4-0 record.

At one point, to facilitate raising funds for the teams, we incorporated the team with the state as a not-for-profit under the name "Circle City Warriors."

Eventually, my employment with the USPS curtailed my ability to dedicate the required time to coaching. This blog covers the time period from leaving IUPUI to my employment with the US Postal Service.
